TRAINING

COACH: GLENN COOK

Glenn is an ex-National and European Triathlon champion, so certainly knows what it takes to reach the top in triathlon. He has been my coach for a long time, and my main motive for moving to Eastbourne in October 2004 was to be able to train full-time under his guidance, and with is club, Bodyworks XTC.

CLUB: BODYWORKS XTC

I train with Bodyworks XTC, of whom Glenn is the head coach, though other coaches include Sarah Coope and Stuart Wilkinson. The club is unique in that it has such a wide range of athletes training together, including Senior Elites, Ironman Athletes, Junior and Youth International athletes, Children's National Champions, along with absolute beginners and just about everyone in between! The club has a great atmosphere and training ethos, and allied with it's strong links with the University of Brighton and Eastbourne Swimming Club, it provides everthing I could wish for in a triathlon club.

I have a great set of training partners, including Todd Leckie, James Adams, Sam Hunt, Max Bradley, Niall Laming, Sophie Coleman and Yvette Grice, though some of the younger members of the squad seem to be catching us up rather too quickly!

LOCATION: EASTBOURNE, EAST SUSSEX

When I moved to Eastbourne, the motive was to be able to train full-time with Glenn and his club, Bodyworks XTC. What I soon realised, and am still discovering, is that the benefits of living here go way beyond those first reasons for re-locating. Along with Glenn, I have managed to build up a fantastic network of support, much of it as a result of the Sports campus of the University of Brighton being located in Eastbourne. These include:

The training facilities here are also tremendous. Along with a multitude of swimming pools, an EIS gym, a tartan track and a fantastic sports science lab, Eastbourne provides something that facilites alone cannot match: the terrain. Being in a unique situation where the coastal flats meet the slopes of the Beachy Head/ South Downs National Park, along with some extensive forests thrown in, the area provides everything you would need for riding and running, and the sea (along with the pools) cover the swimming side of things! We even have our very own triathlon shop: The Tri Store... we are spoilt!
